AIT in the news receiving Britain's best truck stop awardAshford International Truckstop has been named the country’s best lorry park for 2016 by a national trucking newspaper.

Customers nominated the park, owned by GSE Group and which is off Waterbrook Avenue, for the award, organised by Truckstop News.

“It’s a real honour, especially as we were put forward by our customers,” said Darren Smith, General Manager of Ashford International Truckstop.

“We try to make this a real home from home for drivers so that they can relax safe in the knowledge that their vehicles and loads are in a secure location.”

The site has a recently opened a gym and boasts a high quality restaurant serving foods from gourmet burgers to healthy options, a big screen TV sports lounge, internet café, truckers shop and a bar all 24/7. A truckwash and lorry repair service are also available. It employs 26 staff members.

“Everything on site is owned and operated by GSE Group, there are no franchise outlets other than the wash on site, so we can ensure our own high standards are met,” said Darren. “That means we have a strong core of regular customers, as well as passing trade.”

Later this year a free AIT app will be launched that will allow truckers to make guaranteed reservations and take advantage of special offers.

AIT accepting the Award for 'Best Truckstop in Britain'“The app will make a real difference for regular and occasional customers,” said Darren. “For example, if they’re heading up past Lille towards Eurotunnel, or boarding a ferry to Dover, they can log in and secure a place for themselves here for after the crossing.”
The app is due to be launched at the end of the year.
